Live Painting with Artist Cynthia Perryman 

Run of Showhouse

 

Cynthia Perryman returns as the Showhouse resident artist. Nurtured by a family of architects, artists, and teachers, impressionistic artist Perryman was joyfully encouraged to pursue her love of art at a young age. Perryman will set up her easel at The Lodge for an intimate look at her creative process.

Cooking Demo and Book Signing with Nathalie Dupree 

Saturday, August 22, Noon

James Beard Award-Winning Author, Renowned Chef, and Cooking Show Host Nathalie Dupree will host an entertaining cooking demo and talk about her latest award-winning book, Favorite Stories and Recipes. Nathalie is the author of fourteen cookbooks, selling more than half a million copies, and host of three hundred television shows.

Enduring Southern Homes Book Signing with Eric Ross Interiors 

Saturday, August 22, 3 PM

Join one of the South’s most prominent interior designers Eric Ross as he signs copies of his own book titled Enduring Southern Homes. Ross blends historical aspects of design with a modern take for the perfect home. Ross was our 2019 honorary designer and will be on hand to answer questions and sign your new favorite coffee table book.

Sundays with Sister’s Sauce

Indulge in Bloody Mary samples from Sister’s Sauce, a gluten-free and fat-free bloody mix handcrafted in Georgia. Founder Nat Hendricks will be on hand to reveal how this clean Bloody Mary mix was inspired by his family’s love of entertaining and passion for health and wellness.

Elderberry Tea & Bitters Demonstration with Mary Palmer Dargan

Mary Palmer is BACK with her bitters workshop. Mary Palmer Dargan with the award-winning Dargan Landscape Architects has been published in many national publications and featured in HGTV. She will tempt your taste buds and state of mind during this Cocktail Gardening Workshop at Silver Run’s Chimney Garden. Her workshops are famous for being lively, fun, and educational!

19th Amendment Celebration with CHS

The year 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing and protecting women’s constitutional right to vote. Join the Cashiers Historical Society for a special 19th Amendment Celebration at The Lodge. Very special guests include Mark Twain and Gertrude Weil! Pottery Demo with Martha Sutherland Wright

Wednesday, August 26 at 2 p.m. 

​

After 40+ years as a CPA, Martha Sutherland-Wright discovered ceramics.  Her hand-built creations are colorful and functional; she finds whimsy in nature. Her clay medium is stoneware and the pieces are great for your patio, deck, screen porch, or in the garden.  During this pottery demo, Martha will be building a bird house.

Southern Baked Pie Demo and Book Signing

Amanda Wilbanks, owner of Southern Baked Pie Company, will discuss the entrepreneurial spirit behind the founding of her charming and wildly successful pie business while offering delicious samples of her Mini Hand Pies. Learn more about her newest cookbook, Southern Baked: Celebrating Life with Pie.  

 

Southern Art and its History on the Plateau

Learn about Southern Art and its storied history in the Cashiers-Highlands plateau with Susan Kunkler, owner of H+K Gallery in downtown Spartanburg. Susan will tell the interesting stories behind artists on the plateau between 1920 – 1950.

Pop-up Gallery and Book Signing with Tim Barnwell

Faces & Places of Cashiers Valley tells the history of Cashiers with narrative text and historical images followed by photographic portraits and oral stories of 34 residents along with photographs of historic homes and structures of the area. Tim Barnwell's exquisitely rendered photographs, together with the personal memories and musings of his Cashiers' subjects, produce a deep and meaningful impact as his subjects' voices come to life revealing a compelling history of the people who founded and shaped the unique and charming village of Cashiers. Brookings Youth Fly Fishing Sessions with ESPN Fly Fishing America host, Chad Foster

Learn the art of fly casting and fly-tying from professional guides at Brookings Anglers and ESPN Fly Fishing America host Chad Foster. Fly casting clinics will be broken into two sessions. The first session will be from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and the second session will be held 1:30 p.m. – 3 p.m. During these sessions each youth will get one-on-one instruction on two different types of fly casts as well as the fundamentals to make them work properly.  From 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. Rachel Fried of Fried Tied Flies fly-tying fame will led a fly-tying demonstration, and each youth will have a chance to learn hands on introductory fly-tying fundamentals.  Clinics will be limited to eight participants per session based on advance registration online. Kids who take fly fishing clinic may also sign up for fly-tying session. Participants must be between 12 and 18 years of age.

Intentional Gardening with Lisa Dailey

Gardening is encouragement.  We enliven the soil, pick the perfect plant, plant the right seed, handle with care and for the next season we intentionally cultivate our plant to grow, flower, fruit and then we delight in the knowledge that we could. Join Horticultural Consultant Lisa Dailey as she dishes all the dirt on gardens and soil during this intentional talk.

Outdoor Movie Night with Southern Outdoor Cinema

Join us for Outdoor Movie Night on the Silver Run Reserve meadows! We will feature a family-friendly film. Popcorn, milk-duds, and other traditional movie snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. Advance ticket purchase is required and is $15 per person. 

 

Dahlia Day with Drew English

Tuesday, September 1, 1 p.m.

Everyone knows Drew! Drew English is a long-time Cashiers dahlia grower who recently took over the helm of the famed High Hampton Dahlia Garden. Pull up a chair and learn about the traditions of this historic garden, its namesake plant, and absorb tips & tricks on how to grow Drew-quality Dahlias on your own! The afternoon discussion will cover techniques ranging from planting and growing, all the way to Fall harvesting and over-Winter storage. With many of his gorgeous blooms and plants on hand, Drew will exhibit the many variations of shapes, sizes and colors within the dahlia species – just in time to brighten your home for the holiday weekend!

Cocktails and Comments at the CHS Heirloom Garden 

Wednesday, September 2, 1 p.m.

CHS Board Members and Volunteers Teed Poe, Bette Hines, and Sally Carpenter invite you for a tour of the CHS Heirloom Vegetable Garden, which honors native plants and uses only naturally pollinated seeds harvested over 50 – 100 years, just like the pioneers that settled Cashiers did. Guests will receive a specialty “Don’t Tell Elvira” cocktail infused with elements of the garden. Advance ticket purchase is required and is $35 per person. All attending guests will receive a complimentary ticket to the Showhouse! 

 

DESIGN DAY at the Showhouse

Panel: Style and Stewardship, 10 a.m.

Celebrate all things design during DESIGN DAY. Begin the day with a panel moderated by Katherine Ford Richardson, editor of the new Plateau Magazine, and hear from industry leaders about design inspired by the responsible development and mountain modern style that preserve the serene natural environment of properties like Silver Run Reserve. Interior Designer Jamie Elliott McPherson of J. Elliott Interiors, Luxury Real Estate Agent Pat Allen of Pat Allen Realty, and Matthew Kragh of MHK Architecture & Planning will form this interesting panel of industry creatives and influencers. Matthew Kragh will host a book signing following the panel for The Florida Architect, a collection of his architectural works. 

 

Tablescape Demo with K Wakefield Designs, 1 p.m. 

​

Upscale floral designer Kakhi Wakefield will once again forage buckets of foliage and blooms from the Cashiers area and show attendees how to condition flowers, build a textured base, and finish an arrangement.  “I can’t resist cramming as much floral knowledge as possible into each presentation and love showing a variety of containers and teaching a variety of ‘mechanics,’” says Kakhi.  Advance ticket purchase is required. $15 per person includes a handmade take-home arrangement! 

 

Color Trends Talk with Sherwin Williams, 2 p.m.

​

Shane Jones, one of ASID’s “One’s to Watch” and Designer Account Executive with

Sherwin Williams presents on color trends for 2020 and beyond, as well as the interior paint selections for the Showhouse. Passionate about all things colorful, sustainable, and unique, Shane is responsible for educating the residential market of interior designers, architects, and to design students about color and product resources to specify Sherwin-Williams brand. Shane’s goal is to engage and inspire designers.

Closing “High Country Boil” at CHS 

Saturday, September 5, 10 AM – until the party stops! 

​

Celebrate the success of the Showhouse at the Closing High Country Boil, where guests will enjoy a summertime “High Country” Boil catered by The Orchard and hosted by Melissa Hudson, Ashley Monday, and Kirk Moore. The event will take place at the CHS Campus and will include a mimosa bar and a customizable Bloody Mary bar courtesy of Sister’s Sauce. Guests will enjoy music by an Appalachian Jazz ensemble and receive a complimentary ticket to the final day of the Showhouse. Advance ticket purchase is required for $150 per person.
