2019 Showhouse Special events from July 24th through August 4th
Opening Night Horse Cove Social
July 24th from 6pm to 10pm
Come out to the opening night of the 2019 Cashiers Designer Showhouse! This evening is a throwback to the old Horse Cove socials that took place over the many years in this magical spot in the mountains! The evening features a fully catered dinner with cocktails by Asheville’s Cordial and Craft. There will also be live music by the returning band The Business. Not to mention, there will be an old fashioned Mountain Raffle taking place throughout the evening where you can win wonderful prizes!
Make sure you get your tickets! Prices are $150 for singles and $225 for couples!
Eric Ross Book Signing
Friday, July 26th at Noon and Monday, July 29th at Noon
Join one of the South’s most prominent interior designers as he signs copies of his own book titled Enduring Southern Homes. Ross blends historical aspects of design with a modern take for the perfect home! Ross is the honorary guest designer for the 2019 Showhouse and will be at the event mingling as well as chatting on the designer panel.
Eric’s books cost $40 a book and he will sign them on site.
Orvis Fly Fishing and Tying Demos:
Saturday, July 27th at 10am and 2pm and Saturday, August 3rd at 10am and 2pm
Learn from the experts during this demonstration on fly fishing and fly tying by the Orivs fly fishing company. During this demo, guests will learn the intricacies of fly fishing at the spring fed and trout stocked pond on site. Patrons will also have a chance to learn how to tie their own custom fly’s and have one on one interaction with the pros.

Tickets for this demo will be sold on site for $20 a person.
CHS 2019 ADAC Designer Panel Discussion with Honorary Guest Designer Eric Ross:

Pull up a chair and listen as Eric Ross, author of Enduring Southern Homes sits down with Old Edwards Inn’ Holly Laughridge to discuss the Old Edwards properties design aesthetic, incorporating antiques, and the experience that garners loyal patrons and Travel & Leisure awards to this southern mountain enclave. Book Signing with Eric Ross to followThis event will be held down at the demo area next to the Stable house. Patrons will also be able to ask questions of the designers as the discussion progresses.

Bascom Art Tent Demos
All event long
Join the Bascom of Highlands as they welcome over 20 different artisans to the 2019 Designer Showhouse. Their tent will be located directly across from the Showhouse on the property and will have a variety of demonstrations going on by their resident artists. Pottery experts, painters, and other craftsman will be demonstrating their trades as well as selling the fruits of their labors during their demos!

Maizie Clarke Live Painting Demo
Wednesday July 31st at 11am
Maizie Clarke, expert painter and print designer will be on the grounds of the Showhouse conducting a water color painting demo. Her designs and paintings span a variety of types and her demo will show off her creative skills of live painting parts of the Showhouse grounds. Her crafts will be available for purchase as well.

Cooking Demo with Dan Silo of The Sawhorse

The Designer Showhouse welcomes Asheville’s very own Chef Dan Silo as he leads multiple cooking demos during this year’s showhouse as its resident Chef. Chef Silo will be on the grounds cooking marvelous food for its patrons to purchase on site as well as leading three separate cooking demonstrations. Chef Silo specializes in old-school food preservation techniques as well as country butchery.
Tickets for his cooking demos will be $20 and will be sold at the door the days of his demos.
Old Fashioned Pig Picken
Sunday, August 4th Noon to 4pm
The Designer Showhouse will close out the 11 days of festivities with an old fashioned country pig-pickin'. Getting back into the roots of days gone by, the old fashioned pig roast will be something to remember as we bring an old classic back with a modern twist. This event will be extra on top of the daily ticket as you will be getting one heck of a good meal for lunch to help us celebrate the closing of the 2019 Showhouse!

Bee Keeping Demonstration
Thursday July 28th 1pm - 1:45pm
In coordination with the Bascom, the Designer Showhouse will be holding a bee keeping demonstration in the are of the orchard on site. This demo will enlighten patrons on the nuances of beekeeping as well as teach goers about the importance of bees in nature as pollinators! Also, you might get a chance to walk away with some fresh honey and honey combs!
Tickets will be on sale at the ticket table for this event and they cost $15 a person.

Cynthia Perryman Art Demos

Cynthia Perryman joins us for another Showhouse year as one of our resident artists on site. She will be hosting various art demos throughout the Showhouse that attendees will get to partake in free of charge! You will definitely not want to miss out on these demos.

Trevor Howard Tree & Flower Splicing Demo

Thursday August 1 at 11am
The Cashiers Historical Society’s own resident arborist, Trevor Howard will be leading tree and rose flower splicing demonstration in the cutting garden on the property. Trevor has decades of experience as an arborist and pioneered some of the now modern techniques in splicing trees and plants together. Also learn how to get different varieties of roses and apple trees to grow multiple types of flowers and fruits on one plant!
Tickets will be on sale at the ticket table for this demo and will be $10 a person.

Jodie from Chattooga Gardens Wildflower Arranging Demo

Wednesday July 31st at 1pm
Join Jodie from the Chattooga Gardens as she shows patrons how to craftily arrange local wildflower varieties into beautiful arrangements for around your home and garden. This will take place right next to the cutting garden on the above dates.

Cocktail Demos with Lexie of Cordial and Craft and Oak & Grist

Tickets for these cocktail demos will be on sale at the ticket table and will be $30 a person.
Returning for her second Showhouse in a row, Lexie of Asheville’s Cordial and Craft cocktail company will be hosting multiple cocktail demonstrations! The first of which will also feature Oak & Grist. They will be donating their product and be there to talk about their process and I’ll be concocting cocktails! These will blend sophistication with a down home twist! Lexie will also be crafting signature cocktails for this year’s showhouse that pull from the area as well as its heritage! Goers will be able to taste test the creations as she demonstrates her mixology skills.

Oak & Grist distills their spirits from grain to glass in small batches in Black Mountain, NC. Crafted from locally grown and malted grains, each of their products showcases a uniquely regioal flavor. Their spirits aim to reward the curious and excite the connoisseur while fostering a stronger connection between producer, consumer, and place.

Warrior Survival School with, Justin Kingsland and Davis Picklesimer

Warrior Survival School is a situational and mental resiliency training non-profit. While primarily focusing on Veterans and First Responders, we also offer corporate, family and small group coaching. Learn how to process, adapt and prevail during both minor and severe situational abnormalities. Warrior Survivor School delivers backroad expeditions that provide opportunities to learn how the outdoors can make you happier and healthier as well as teach survival skills.

This workshop will showcase and teach many skills and help to focus the mind when in nature. Great for kids and a wonderful experience for children to share with their parents!
