As a member of the Cashiers Historical Society, you join one of the most successful and active civic organizations in Western North Carolina. Your Historical Society enriches the community in three distinct ways: 1) by partnering with regional individuals and groups to preserve and protect the heritage of Cashiers Valley 2) through the preservation and interpretation of The Zachary-Tolbert House Museum 3) by encouraging and providing a variety of educational programs for both children and adults.
The Cashiers Historical Society awards an annual Village Heritage Award in recognition of the preservation or restoration of a building that best represents the historic character of our community. The Historical Society also partners with local groups like The Albert Carlton Library and The Village Council in sponsoring activities and programs that emphasize our heritage and a “sense of place”. The Historical Society works to bring together resources that share the goals and abilities to protect historic properties that might otherwise be altered or destroyed.
The Cashiers Historical Society works to preserve and interpret one of the premier historic and architecturally significant sites in the state, The Zachary-Tolbert House Museum. Since 1996, the Historical Society has restored the House, an adjoining Kitchen Dependency, and historically re-created five acres of meadows, interpretive nature trails, and protected woodlands. The entire site is open to the public and used to both educate and entertain visitors throughout the Spring, Summer, and Fall.
The Cashiers Historical Society offers a variety of educational and social opportunities for its membership and for the entire community. On site programs are hosted in the House Museum, the adjoining rolling hills & woodlands, and at the adjacent state-of-the-art Dowden Pavilion. Our seasonal calendar is packed with attractive and beneficial activities for all ages.
As a member of the Cashiers Historical Society, you will feel a sense of pride and cooperation. Your support will provide future generations the ability to reflect on and remember their heritage. But most importantly, your membership supports your community today – in real and tangible ways. The Historical Society is an invaluable asset for local schools, local families, the area’s economy, and other like-minded individuals & organizations.
Thank you for your tax-deductible membership. It enables us to maintain our present-day successes and well as our momentum and vision for the future. We are very grateful for your support.
